RE: Please help with National Parks planning decision...

I agree, as long as you are in the area, do Glacier. The SW would be saved for another trip. Both are great trips. I believe as long as you are there, to do as much as possible. You could find plenty to do for this vacation at the 3 parks. The SW would be a better trip sometime other than August! Dave Either way, have FUN!

RE: Next Stop??? Need Suggestions Please

How about the Olympic Penninsula? It would be a little milder along the coast. Yellowstone is awesome, but snow will be arriving there well before November.

RE: What size battery

A 24 was inc in price, took a credit because I knew I was getting two 6 volt trojans. Great mod, lots more juice if you dry camp much. Dave

RE: us 441 between Franklin NC and Gatlinburg TN

The road over the mtn is not bad. It is beautiful and has many places to turn out and let others pass. You can go at your own pace. In March the road will not be crowded. You may have 70 degree weather or snow. If the forecast is good, I would take 441. Just take it easy and use your trans to slow you down. Your brakes will need that extra help from the trans. Mtn driving is not difficult, but can be intimidating if you have not done it before. The beauty of the drive will make the trip worth it. Stop at the pull outs and see how the Smokies look different at each stop. Check out the Appalachain Trail @ Newfound Gap. There are lots of places to see. Where are you camping? If you don't need hookups, stay in the park. It is quiet and beautiful. We have camped there every spring break for the last 13 years. My kids count the days till we go as soon as the new year hits. PM me if I can answer any questions. Have a great trip! Dave PS- Unto these hills does not open till the summer.

RE: 2008 Jayco23B vs. 2003 23B What to do?

Other differences on 2008 from the 2003 include: 6" wider trailer Larger rear bed (queen) Seperate shower faucet Bunk end latches much improved These are all items that were important to us. Dave

RE: 2008 Jayco23B vs. 2003 23B What to do?

5K is alot of money. IF you are good with the used, and you do a real complete look over, it may be the way to go. Really look carefully for damage from water and ck the operation of all items, apppliances , bunk ends, tires, slide and so on. If your wife really likes the new interior, might be better off with that. We looked at lots of used ones and saw condition and price all over the place. Bottom line is, you two have to be happy with the unit. A few camping trips down the road, the 5K difference will not matter as much as you both being sold that this was the camper for you. We finally found the unit that had all we wanted, after we stopped looking and had given up! Ended up with a 2007 that had some of the 2008 items, so it is a morph that still smelled new and looked like it had never been used. Good luck, and hope you love your 23B as much as we do! Dave

RE: Outside propane stove

Camp chef comes with legs so it is free standing. The legs come off for easy storage. Walmart online sells them for $99, way cheaper than anyone else. Have it shipped to a store near you for NC. I like the free standing as I can put it back side to the wind or move it just under the awning if needed for weather conditions. They also have a seasoned griddle for it which is nice. Dave

RE: Outside propane stove

We bought a camp chef. It works with the low pressure gas line from the RV yet has the BTU of the old coleman popup high pressure stove. Dave

RE: Camping in West Yellowstone - traveling East To SD.

You could just go north from West Yellowstone and take 90 thru Montana and drop down into WY, if you didn't care about hitting Cody(great rodeo and Buffalo Bill Museum. It would be the easiest drive but, the drive out the east entrance is sure pretty! Dave

RE: Camping in West Yellowstone - traveling East To SD.

16 is definately an easier drive, less grade and fewer switchbacks. We just returned from Yellowstone, took 16 on the way there and 14 on the way home. Dave

RE: Transmission Temp

Scangauge is really a nice way to go. I was worried as we were heading to Yellowstone and did not want a trans failure to ruin the trip as I experienced first hand a few years back. The scan gauge uses the factory installed internal sensor and the unit plugs in to the OB port. No wiring leads or power cables to mess with. The unit itself works great and gives you other info as was mentioned earlier. I don't think you can beat it for $150 your done! Dave

RE: Where are the Colorado visitors?

Just got back frm Yellowstone- No lack of travellers there. All campgrounds were full and they were turning people away. Saw plates from everywhere. Dave

11 is a nice country road. It has been a long time since I drove the western portion to Dubuque though.

RE: Jayco 23B or Star Stream ss22rbh?

We have a 23B and love it. I don't think setting a table up/down for a bed is a hassle, you may. We love the extra space the large table affords. We have 3 high school age kids and easily fit at the table with room to spare. My oldest son is 6'2" and my wife and I are not small. This was a major reason in our choosing the Jayco. We like to eat and play games together at one table. Sometimes weather dictates being inside and the extra space is nice. No other HTT really allows this, at least not that we found. I know some worry about low clearance, just take it easy. We just returned from a 2 week 3000 mile trip to Yellowstone and Grand Teton NP with no issues. I don't know anything about the SS, but are very, very pleased with our 23B. Good luck, and buy the camper YOU like best. Keep looking and you will know which one is right for you. Dave

RE: YeeeeHaaww!

Dale- Lake Superior is really nice. Have a great time. It is fuuny how things change. We have been camping in a popup since the 70's and I never thought I would be in a camper. I don't think I would if it weren't for a HTT. The tent still gives you that open air feeling! Dave

YeeeeHaaww!

Just got back from our first trip in our HTT. It was great, everything worked perfectly. Really poured rain Sat night, it was so nice to all fit with room to spare, around the table, and play games into the night! After being in a popup for so many years, felt like a mansion! Wife and kids also liked not having to brave the heavy rain to go to the bathroom. Thanks again to all of you for your help in selecting the right unit for us! Now, its off to Yellowstone in 2 weeks! The west is so cool! We can't believe that is our trailer in the drive. Somehow it doesn't seem real. Thanks again, Dave PS- anybody on the fence about getting an HTT, do it!
